For our final User Interface project we were tasked with creating an original functional app. It had to be an app that would be used for the New York City area, and had to be something that was wanted be people in this area. I was very excited for this project, and really wanted to create something that could be used for portfolio work. The twist on this final project, was that we had to create a work prototype, using Above XD. I had never really used this application before, and was a littler nervous to find out how to use it. Prior to this class I spent some time watching video tutorials but had never actually used the program. To first start this project I searched the New York Databases, to see what people from this area were searching for. I wanted to create something eco friendly, that served a greater purpose. What I found from the data base was that over 20,000 people looked at data bases for public recycling bin locations, and air quality maps. From this I sketched out various ideas for each app, and even thought about app icons. Form here I went further with the public recycling bin locator and started to tighten the concept. I implicated a reward system into the idea, so that way people would get rewarded for helping the planet. These rewards would be like the app Unidays, and give users percentages off for each level the user upgrades to. This project had much thought to it, especially making sure everything had a purpose and that everything made sense. It was ideal to stick with a grid system to keep everything consistent and clean. Overall I loved doing this project and tend to keep practicing in XD. XD was such a useful tool to have, and will be for the future.
