Hannah Hoch, another German Artist, was good friends with Schwitters. They were both artists during the early 1900s but their friendship was cut short due to going into exile for being apart of the Dadaist art movement. This movement was pre war, and was meant to question the norms of art at the time. During WW2 however, this became banned by Germany and many were put into exile. While during this exile Hoch was able to express her artist flow with various college work and paintings using watercolor and gouache. As stated in "Hannah Hoch" by Lavin Maud, Hoch had much time of isolation which let her creativity flourish. I think this is pretty amazing to know that during such a bad time of having no friends and being alone that Hoch was able to still find the good and show her creativity. Her collage work was very old fashioned, using various papers from magazines and creating interesting and abstract pieces. These to me are some of the earliest signs of modern collaging and has shaped to be what the definition of collaging is today. Her work is very interesting and during its time was very innovative. Its cool to know that her and Schwitters, two very renown collage artists, were close friends and therefor may have influenced each others work.
